LP Candidate on Univision; plus intense immigration debate

In Libertarian on September 1, 2008 at 1:42 am

I don’t know what he’s saying, but he sure looks good saying it! Must be a Texan! Yeap! Disclaimer: I do have some “street-level” Spanish language comprehension, but in general, the more intelligent the conversation, the less likely I am to understand what’s being said.

Gricha Raether is one of our “paper candidates” in Texas. We begged him to be a candidate with no obligations and he agreed to be one wherever we needed him. Some “paper candidates” pleasantly surprise us and make us proud, while others don’t. My approach in Texas has been to ask people to go ahead and try being a candidate no matter how unsure of yourself your are. And when Texas candidates don’t do well, I defend them and thank them for giving it a shot. I think that’s one of the most important reasons why the Libertarian Party of Texas is experiencing growth by most measures. Don’t nitpick the imperfect. Encourage everyone to do their best.

Below, Libertarian Party of Texas State Chair Pat Dixon and I (Wes Benedict, Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of Texas) debate the immigration issue. We introduce the debate with a disclaimer that we don’t necessarily believe what we’re saying (Pat plays the role of Lou Dobbs, I criticize Ron Paul), which may or may not provide defense or prevent attacks from immigration supporters, opponents, the IRS, and more.

The second half is more intense than the first half, so you’ll have to set an hour aside for a fully balanced experience. I do think you’ll enjoy the debate.  Google videos don’t seem to embed easily for me so you’ll have to click on the link:
