Young teen’s sexual shenanigans puts two men in prison

In Libertarian on June 6, 2008 at 2:18 pm

A 13-year-old girl’s sexual shenanigans have put a second man behind bars. Morris Williams, 22, told the judge he thought the girl was 18-years-old, but he found out Tuesday that ignorance is not a defense.

Morris Williams’ mother wailed as he went off to jail. The judge asked for media not to show 13-year-old Alisha Dean’s face in court, but her pictures are all over her MySpace page and they portray a sexy, 19-year-old divorced woman.

“She told me she had just turned 18,” Williams said.

Williams said Dean picked him up on the street and after a few conversations they had sex. When he heard she was not 18, he went to her father.

“He was like ‘well, she’s 13,'” Williams said of a conversation with Dean’s father.

Williams said he never did it again, but Dean has done it before with 24-year-old Darwin Mills. Mills was sentenced to five years in prison. Dean’s father wanted Williams to join Mills there.

“One of the reasons for the law is the fact that minors have poor judgment,” said Jerry Dean, the girl’s father.

Williams’ father believes the jail sentence sends the wrong message to Alisha.

“I guess we just sit back and count how many after this,” Henry Smith asked after his step-son was sentenced to jail.

Dean’s family admits Alisha still stays out late and has yet to delete her misleading MySpace page. Williams will serve six years probation with the first year in jail. The other five years he will have to wear an ankle monitor. His attorney says he will come back to court to ask again for a shorter sentence.

When Alisha tricked the first man into believing she was old enough to consent to sex, she was only 12 years old. Now, a year later at 13, another man is in prison for believing Alisha’s lies.

What do you think should happen in cases like this?

  1. Check her ID next time?

  2. I honestly believe that in cases like this, the defendant should be able to argue a “good faith belief” kind of defense. And these minors who are lying to them (especially repeat offenders like Alisha) should be held accountable with a charge like “accessory to commit statutory rape”. Maybe even a conspiracy charge, depending on how many of her little friends corroborated her false age.

And I find it appalling that her parents are completely apathetic to her behavior. Charge them, too. Or call in child services, because something is really amiss in that household.

In the meantime, I’m with Jason. Check the ID. Except that IDs can be faked very well and then we’re back in the same boat. Until a solution for lying little jail-baits is found, I guess girls like Alisha will be in the business of making victims.

Hmmm…afterthought. If any time would have been appropriate for the fabled “jury nullification”, now would have been it.

  3. Sadly, this is one of the few areas left where ignorance of the law is no defence. It’s been tried, and tried… and failed every time.

If she’s under 18, you’re fucked. I recall one case where a man was even convicted after having woken up to the girl “riding” him — his first act upon realization of who it was (she was the 15 year old daughter of his girlfriend; he had fallen asleep on the couch) was to throw her off of him.

He was still convicted of statutory rape.

These guys don’t stand a fucking chance.

  4. This is why I think the entire concept of “age of consent” is bogus and should be scrapped.

  5. This is why I think the entire concept of “age of consent” is bogus and should be scrapped.

Unfortunately, this sort of thinking if taken to its “inevitable conclusion” will make feeding, caring for, and providing medical care for infants criminal imprisonment.

There is good reason for Age of Consent laws. However, there also needs to be retooling of age of consent laws to reflect malediction on the part of the minor. There should also be a “neutral” status for consent, rather than a default of “non-consent”, insofar as those unable to grant consent on their own goes.

    Damned lawyerese.

  6. Biologically mature individuals (old enough to breed) are mature enough to make their own decisions about sexual activity. Infants are not mature enough to make any decisions about anything. If a lawyer wants to weaselword his way around that there is no way to stop him, I suppose.

  7. I feel sorry for these guys. This is a malicious young girl who obviously was not raised properly by her parents. The men in this scenario should not be going to jail. Plain and simple.

  8. There is a very big difference between physical maturity and emotional/psychological maturity. There are a LOT of “biologically mature” girls who are “old enough to breed” but not mature enough to make informed decisions about whether to engage in sex, especially with grown men. They don’t think about pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, etc. They think only that sex = love, which of course is untrue but that’s yet another thing they will eventually understand once they mature.

  9. I was a high school football jock and dated a lot of girls. But I didn’t have sex until I was married (first marriage, long story). Anyways, its what my parents drilled in my head so I followed it.

After I got divorced…all bets off, haha.

Point is, her parents are responsible for teaching that young lady whats right and whats wrong.

  10. Point is, her parents are responsible for teaching that young lady whats right and whats wrong.

After reading the other comments, it appears the retard caucus believes it is the government’s responsibility.

  11. I remember my Mom telling me about the negative ramifications of sex. I was scared shitless, and knew that it was some serious shizznit. I think it’s all about proper parenting, this is something the government can never do.

  12. I don’t think anyone here is saying it’s the government’s responsibility to teach this girl right from wrong. In this situation, the girl was obviously never taught proper behavior by her parents, and as a result she is engaging in behavior which harms others.

In a libertarian utopia, this would not be a problem because judges and juries would realize that she is an exception to the rule. However, we live in the real world, where her behavior is destroying lives.

As long as we have laws which make it a crime for men to believe her lies, without being able to use her behavior as a defense, we need to have some way of stopping her from engaging in that behavior. Surely you don’t think we should just keep putting men in prison because this girl’s parents refuse to control their child.

  13. Since I’m a mother of two girls and had sex (and children) young myself, I think that I’m qualified to say that age of consent laws are utter crap. Society is the reason girls this age aren’t “emotionally mature” for sex. Physiologically we are programmed to have sex/children at an age that our bodies are most prepared to handle it. Society demands that young adults- yes, that’s what they are at 13, 14 and 15- behave like children. Then everybody freaks the fuck out that there’s a little schitzophrenia here and there and demands that we subvert nature more. And they think libertarians are loony!

This “child” should go live the adult life she wishes to live- complete with the freedoms and responsibilities that come with it. Then she might “grow up.”

An aside: Ain’t it strange that people now accept IVF and other treatments required because of waiting too long to have sex/children as normal these days?

  14. Obviously lose the t in schizo… sorry.

  15. Vote Libertarian – send our kids to prison for having sex!

July 4, 2007 (written while serving on LNC)

“Wilson committed acts that the people of Georgia had determined through their lawful, elected representatives across the state—Republican and Democrat, black and white, rural and urban—should be punished.”

The act? The 17-year old Wilson got a blow job from a 15-year old girl. Barr was upset because a judge Wilson’s 10-year sentence might be reduced.

  16. @ElfNinosMom: “There is a very big difference between physical maturity and emotional/psychological maturity. I would have to say that there are plenty of people that are in their 30’s that still aren’t mature enough to raise children or even think about the responsibility. How are you going to age cap that?

Note: I have 3 children; all girls.

  17. Michael: The question is not whether someone is mature enough (or responsible enough) to raise children. The question is whether they are mature enough to give informed consent to sex.

  18. The question is whether they are mature enough to give informed consent to sex.

I believe this is the wrong question. There are some exceptionally rational and informed 11, 12, and yes 14 & 15 year olds out there — male and female.

The correct question is, “is this person informed enough to make an informed decision?” And, yes — we can discuss what impact neurophysical maturity has on this; but remember that fully adult neurology sets in around age 16, if I recall correctly.

This informed status is really more of a clincher. Should we test people as to whether they know what a ballot issue is before they are allowed to vote on it? How does this mesh with Jim Crowe laws?

I truly do understand what you are getting at, though, ENM. I disagree with it — extremely strongly — but I do understand it. The reason I disagree is relatively simple enough: We cannot have a libertarian society which cultivates psychological neoteny.

    The two are mutually non-compatible.

  19. […] The previous post about Alisa Dean, the 13-year-old Florida teen whose sexual shenanigans caused two men to go to prison, is here. […]

  20. Well and good, at least these young men will learn what America is all about.

Young black men getting tricked by a sociopathic young woman and then getting the opportunity to experience prison, along with all the advantages, such as the learning experience of being repeatedly raped since they are handsome young men, low on the hierarchy, and convicted of “raping” a child.

The unfairness of it is breathtaking, and unfortunately typical.

Well, I suppose it’s a step up from being hanged by a lynch mob.

  21. Oh that’s right, and he will still face the possibility of being lynched after being released because he will be on the publicly accessible sex offenders registry.

Y’all still think that the punishment still fits the crime here?

  22. Angry: I think we’re all in agreement that the only victim here is Morris Williams.

  23. And by extension, his family. Forgot to add that, sorry.
